Week 6

So, after the steel work was installed yesterday, the framers were hard at work on Friday and installed the ceiling joists to the ground floor and a bit more of the frame.  An e-mail from our construction consultant let us know that the 1st floor should also be built next week and completed.  A busy week ahead for the construction crew.  Here are some pictures of this week!

Week 6 - Thursday

A short drive by the block on Thursday revealed that the steel work in the back of the house was up.

Week 5

Well, not much to report this week.  Since the frame was delivered and partially put together, the framers haven't been back on site.  That said, the back fill was done this week.  Also, spoke with the site supervisor and the framework should be continuing soon.

Week 4 (Saturday Morning)

Well, I drove by the block this morning and to my surprise, they put up some of the frame for the ground floor.

The gap on the right is where the garage will be.  The concrete at the front is the porch, there will be two large brick pillars there, and of course our little man!

This window will be instead of a 'splash back' behind the freestanding stove/oven.  There will be pot drawers on either side of the oven and cabinets overhead.

Week 4 - Thursday (Special Delivery)

We drove by the block on Thursday to see if they had 'back filled' our slab and we noticed a delivery!

The ground floor frame had arrived!!!!  I wonder when they are going to start setting it up, rain is forecast for tomorrow night and the weekend!

Week 4 - Monday (the Pour)

Monday morning we arrived at the site and met our 'Site Supervisor' for the first time. We had a chat with him whilst they were pouring our slab.  

He seemed like a pretty nice guy, well qualified and actually lives around the corner from our site.  It was pretty reassuring to meet someone that knows the area and has built in the area before.

We were pretty impressed with how fast they can pour and finish the slab.  One day and it sets enough to walk on!

Week 3

Wow, what a week.

It started with the retaining wall on Monday / Tuesday!

Then before we knew it, we had the pre slab work done.

Our site supervisor called this morning (Friday) and told us that the slab pour was brought forward to first thing Monday morning and our inspector would have to get re-scheduled for later today.  Luckily, it all worked out and our independent inspector came at 4:30pm (Friday).

6:30pm, I received a call from our inspector telling me that the work that was done was 'very well done' and it was a pleasant change to the usual work he's seen.  He met with our site supervisor, the slab construction team and was really impressed with their professionalism and their work.  What a great start to our build.  Here are some pics!

Week 2

So, week 2 has now been and gone.

Not as visually eventful as the first week, however a few 'key' items were done.  Water to the site and....
